I attended a webinar hosted by Stefanie Grieser and Tech Ladies recently called, “How to Promote Yourself Authentically”. BTW, if you are a woman in technology and you haven’t heard of Tech Ladies, you are Missing. Out. I won’t waste your time rehashing the entire hour-long session. Here are the highlights:
Writing your bio (hint: get someone else to do the hard part)
- Have trouble talking about yourself in a way that doesn’t feel gross? Ask someone else to describe your best qualities. Even if you don’t believe them, just use what they’ve given you and be at peace with it.
- Take a personality test to get ideas. Stefanie recommended 16 Personalities because it’s free, but there are loads of other options out there.
You don’t have to speak at conferences
I actually enjoy speaking at conferences, but it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. I’m sure there was a collective sigh of relief when Stefanie reminded us that promoting yourself doesn’t necessarily mean you need to stand on a stage and entertain people.
Blog about events…like this one!
The best tip I got from Stefanie is that if I have a blog (ahem), I should be blogging about all the webinars and networking events I’ve been attending. And so…here we are.
Nice one, and useful too. Long live the Tech Ladies,
